For over twenty years, Andrew Mangold has devoted himself to expanding the limit of what leather can become.
Beginning at fourteen with historical and fantasy armor, his devotion to the craft has evolved into an obsessive pursuit of increasingly complex forms. Every piece is a step toward perfecting invented techniques, mastering complex patterns, blending perfect colors and bringing otherworldly artifacts to life, while retaining a reverence for traditional leather-crafting techniques and an extraordinary attention to detail.
The Mangold Leather studio a temple of artistic devotion and a laboratory of invention. Here, leather is continually tested, transformed, and drawn into unfamiliar territory. New techniques are refined until they are ready to be highlighted in a new sculpture. Every piece is an opportunity to perfected highlight unconventional, invented techniques, from a foundation of traditional leather mastery.
Andrew’s true gift is bringing forms from the visionary realm into the physical world. Before touching a tool, Andrew waits and listens, softening into clairvoyant states where forms are presented to be born. With decades of techniques and experience, Andrew is able to give birth as expertly and accurately as possible to the vision that was received :: When you send us a drawing for a custom piece, is it crafted with the same expert precision: bringing vision into reality.
Every piece is imbued with the soul and passion of the artist. Every piece is a collaboration with the Earth, with Spirit and with the animal and trees whose gifts allow each piece to be born.
As in many traditions, the process is equally as valuable as finished piece itself. In the Mangold Leather studio, the art is the process of creation: Passion. Ignition. and then a dance between crafter, tools, the material and studio itself. These pieces are not born through stress and anguish… They’re born through the deep pleasure of creating, and the daily practice of growth as an artist.
